ANNOUNCEMENT FOR NEW AWARD (IPRUW/MSED)

The Institute for Polymer Research at the University of Waterloo (IPRUW) has established a new Canada-wide award for graduate students (or senior undergraduate students), whose research work (or design/research projects) is in the "interfaces between Polymer Chemistry and Polymer Reaction Engineering". The annual award will be administered jointly by IPRUW/MSED. It will have a $500-$1,000. cash value and the recipient will be invited to present the research work during the annual IPRUW Symposium on Polymerization Theory and Practice held in May of each year).

Applications should include a self-prepared one-page form which lists the following:

  1. Name, telephone/fax numbers, and e-mail/mailing addresses
  2. Department, university, program (e.g., undergraduate project, M. Eng., PhD, etc.), and expected graduation date
  3. Thesis or project title
  4. Signatures of the applicant and research supervisor and signing date

By signing this form, the supervisor agrees to provide a letter of recommendation which emphasizes the applicant’s contributions to knowledge in the field of study.

In addition to this form, the applicant should also provide the documents below:

  1. A curriculum vitae.
  2. Research contributions (publications, other forms of research output). For each contribution, describe the significance in terms of influence and impact on the field of your research.
  3. A short report (about 1000 words, plus figures/tables). In the report, the hypotheses, objectives, and both completed and proposed research work should be clearly stated. Emphasis should be placed on explaining how the work fits in the “interfaces between Polymer Chemistry and Polymer Reaction Engineering”.

The criteria for selection will be scientific merit, creativity and originality. All applications will be reviewed by IPRUW, in collaboration with the MSED Chairperson. The deadline for receipt of applications for the award is end of February.
